Charlotte is Home to a Wealth of Breast Cancer Charities and Events

For many people, breast cancer awareness means getting involved in community events and charities. The Charlotte area is home to many such events and charities as there is no shortage of community involvement.

Carolina Breast Friends is a local group that offers a variety of programs at its Pink House, which is open Monday through Friday in the city of Charlotte. Restorative yoga, knitting clubs and scrapbooking classes are just a few of the weekly events that take place inside the Pink House.

The Susan G. Komen Charlotte foundation in Charlotte hosts numerous charity events throughout the year, highlighted by numerous Race for the Cure events in which participants include people of all ages. These events extend to other types of functions, including comedy events with the theme ‘Laugh for the Cure.’

This foundation also specializes in outreach and education initiatives as it has become a widely recognized name throughout Charlotte. When discussing breast cancer events in Charlotte, Susan G. Komen Charlotte often makes its way into the conversation.

The month of October is littered with charity events as breast cancer awareness takes over the national spotlight during that time. However, Charlotte features breast cancer awareness events all year around and that includes numerous 5K races and walks all over the city.

The Making Strides against Breast Cancer Charlotte chapter is one that is active in such events, while also bringing together local businesses who serve as sponsors.

Local sports teams have also gotten into the act as the Carolina Panthers continue to raise money each year by selling team products with pink weaved into it through the month of October.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Hornets assistant coach Patrick Ewing, whose two older sisters were diagnosed with breast cancer, designed his own shoe that were worn throughout the month of October. Ewing’s efforts sent proceeds directly to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The Charlotte media has even done its part as radio stations, such as 101.9 WBAV, promote all the different breast cancer events within the community. Various parts of Charlotte routinely put together events to benefit breast cancer awareness as the city has developed a reputation of embracing these initiatives.
